Tamar Braxton is on a one woman mission to take over the music world right now. She has a new album, a new baby, a new talk show, and a host of other additions to her growing musical empire. Not only that, she has consistently proven that authenticity is the way to go. The youngest sibling of Grammy-winning singer, Toni Braxton, Tamar is breaking away from her family name and redefining music in a way that works best for her. And, she is definitely shining.
Unwilling to let the pressure of Hollywood break her down, this young lady is showing young women everywhere that success is what you make of it. And, she makes motherhood look good.
Tamar is truly an impressive young lady. We first met her back in the 90s at the peak of Toni’s career. Singing background vocals for her sister and attempting to launch a singing group with her other sisters, Tamar struggled to establish herself as an artist. But, fast forward a few years, she has definitely turned all that around.
This summer, Tamar released her new album “Love and War.” The traditional R&B album showcases her soaring vocals, unique runs, and powerful chops even while being playful and young. Obviously a labor of love, the album plays like the project of a seasoned professional with decades of experience. Audiences everywhere have accepted the work sending it to the tops of the sales charts in its first weeks.
But, there is a lot more to Tamar than her singing voice. Showing her vulnerability in her fertility woes and marriage learnings on her shows “Braxton Family Values” and “Tamar and Vince” has added some dimension to the starlet which most fans would never have a chance to see. We watched as she sat at her “husband-ger”, Vincent “Vince” Herbert’s, bedside when he became unexpectedly ill last year. We watched as she worked to start a family. And now, she has a beautiful little boy named Logan who she gave birth to in June.
She is a positive example to other young women traversing career and family. In addition, she continues to manage her personal and professional lives seamlessly.
Tamar’s newest venture, “The Real” Talk Show, recently debuted on Fox. A summer hit, Tamar showed that she can do much more than sing. The great thing about the show was it’s highlight of all women of color on the hosting panel which includes Tamera Mowry-Housley and comedienne Loni Love. Overall, she is multi-talented and seems to be making it clear that she has the grit to become a major player in Hollywood for a long time to come.
Tamar has her own sayings, her own vibe, her own hair styles, and her own ideas about what a modern mother/singer/TV show host should behave like. She is shining because she never compromises on who she is, proving that authenticity, self-confidence, and loyalty to one’s own personhood is the only way to thrive.
