Queen Latifah Looks and Acts Like a Million Bucks

Queen-Latifah-Shining-GrammysWas I the only one who noticed how fabulous Queen Latifah looked at this year’s Grammy Awards which aired this past Sunday? Not only are her efforts to get in great shape apparent, she looked happy, radiant, and positively stunning in her floor length black glittery gown. And, as her appearance displays, she has been winning in the industry for quite some time now.

Queen Latifah, born Dana Owens in 1970 in Newark, New Jersey, has been a trend setter and iconic figure in the black community ever since 1993 when she released her debut album  All Hail to the Queen. Most were introduced to her via the song “U.N.I.T.Y.” which earned Latifah her first Grammy. Since then, she has also won an Oscar for her supporting role in the musical “Chicago.” And, she continues to make music which appeals to the masses holding true to her musical roots.

Back in the day, she represented the rough around the edges homegirl that many young women of color could relate to. She spoke the language, wore the clothes, and walked the walk of the around-the-way girl most in the black community knew as their friends or family. Watching her grow into the acclaimed actress, singer, and television host has inspired many young women to aspire toward their dreams. She is proof that young women from humble beginnings still have the potential to reach unimaginable heights.

If you haven’t seen her TV show yet, you’re missing out. While Latifah previously hosted a show, her current show first aired last year. And from the looks of it, it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. She has had guests from Martha Stewart to Angela Bassett sit with her on her beige couch. She rocks amazing fashion and encourages her audience members to dress for success. She is 100 percent the Queen Latifah we have all grown to love never compromising on who she is. Everyday, her show is a reminder that black women have the ability to accomplish great things no matter the circumstance.

I can’t be sure what, if anything, has changed about Latifah over the years. I can be certain, though, that time and maturity look amazing on her. For now, I am just going to continue gazing on as her star continues to shine brightly.

The show airs weekly at 2 pm on CBS. Check your local listings for broadcast dates and times.
